O’Zone Pizza Pub

While searching for unique things to do along the Emerald Coast, Atlas Obscura pointed us toward O’Zone Pizza Pub, and we were instantly intrigued. The restaurant is tucked into the basement of the historic old Sacred Heart Hospital building, and rumor has it that part of it sits in what used to be the hospital morgue. That was more than enough to get our attention.

The hospital relocated in the 1960s, and the building was converted into small businesses and restaurants. Walking through the hallways feels a bit like stepping back in time. Display cases hold antique medical equipment and other odd curiosities, and the walls are lined with black-and-white photos of nuns in the chapel and old surgical rooms. Add in a collection of large, slightly spooky paintings, and the whole place has a wonderfully quirky atmosphere.

We chose O’Zone mainly because of its unusual backstory and honestly weren’t sure what to expect from the pizza. Thankfully, it didn’t just rely on ambiance. We ordered the meat lovers pizza, and it was excellent. Great flavor, generous toppings, and definitely worth the stop.

If you’re in the area and in the mood for pizza with a side of history and a dash of the unexpected, this is a fun place to check out.
